Allyl isothiocyanate (AITC) is an antimicrobial compound naturally present in wasabi (Japanese horseradish).  It is effective against E Coli and H Pylori.

it is a volatile liquid.  Food stored together with wasabi in air tight containers prevents food spoilage by inhibiting microbial growth. 

AITC also has anti cancer properties by inhibiting proliferation of cancerous cells and inducing apoptosis.
